Ten thousand people in Bauchi are expected to benefit from a free medical treatment sponsored by the Speaker, House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara.
This was disclosed on Thursday at the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital (ATBUTH) Bauchi by the team leader of Doctors on the Move Africa, Dr. Haruna Joseph Kigbu.
He said that the medical outreach, to be carried out by specialists, would involve general consultation, administration of free drugs, laboratory service, ultra-sound scanning, test and treatment of diabetes, hypertension and cataracts, fibroids a well as hernia surgeries.
He explained that the free medical outreach in Bauchi is the first phase being sponsored by the speaker adding that the second phase would hold in Azare, Katagum local government area.
‘‘We are here today, to implement a free medical outreach program that is being sponsored by the Speaker of the Nigerian parliament Yakubu Dogara. Our projection for the next six days is treat about 10, 000 patients. Last time we were able to treat 18, 000 patients in this hospital,’’ he said
He urged the incoming governor of the state to provide funds for similar projects to help the less privileged people who can not afford health services.
One of the beneficiaries, Laraba Shehu said she came to receive treatment for hypertension and diabetes and commended Dogara for the gesture.
