The Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), Dr Mahmuda Isa, says INEC has so far registered about two million voters in Jigawa State.
The State REC, made the disclosure yesterday while speaking with Daily Trust, adding that the Continuous Voters Registration exercise would be suspended on August 17 to give room for political activities since the election was fast approaching,
Dr Isa said since the commencement of the distribution of the permanent voters card (PVCs), over 35,000 voters had collected their PVCs, pointing out that the commission received a total of 64,152 PVCs in May for distribution.
He expressed optimism that the commission would be able to end the distribution of all PVCs meant for the state within the next eight weeks.
He attributed the feat achieved in the distribution to intensified supervision by his management team.
“We have so far registered 1,997,000 voters in the state. All eligible voters can still come forward for registration as the CVR exercise is still ongoing until the 17th of this month,” he said.
