The police on Wednesday arraigned a company manager and a security guard in a Kado Grade 1 Area Court, Abuja, for an alleged joint act and wrongful restraint.
The defendants, Uchenna Udoh and Alafi Philip, all of Ambeez Plaza, Wuse Zone 5, Abuja, are standing trial on a two-count charge of joint action and wrongful restraint.
The Prosecutor, Judith Obatomi, told the court that one Chukwuma Joseph, a staff of AMAC Revenue Unit, reported the matter at the Utako Police Station on August 9, 2018.
Obatomi alleged that the defendants jointly, without justifiable reasons, with a criminal intention, restrained the complainant and his colleagues from coming out of the plaza.
She alleged that the complainant and other staff went to the plaza for revenue collection and Udoh ordered the security guard to beat them up without any provocation.
The prosecuting counsel told the court that the offences contravened the provisions of Section 256 of the Penal Code.
The defendants, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.
The Judge, Alhaji Ahmed Ado, granted the defendants bail in the sum of N100,000 each, with one surety each in like sum and adjourned the case to October 3, for further hearing. (NAN)
