Bayelsa gives N3.1bn scholarship to 137 PhD students, others

The Bayelsa state government  has given scholarship of over N3.1 billion to 789 studens in 20 countries around the world, governor Henry Dickson, has said.
Speaking to newsmen in Abuja, Dickson said 137 Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) scholars, 260 Masters Candidates, 142 undergraduates and 250 secondary school students studying in Nigeria and different institutions across the world have benefited. According to the breakdown 137 students are going for PhD  260 forMasters Programme in many countries including the United Kingdom.
Dickson said his administration also inherited undergraduates from the former Bayelsa administrations whose studies were ongoing in Malaysia, Ukraine, Belarus and Russia.
Speaking on the ongoing debate on the autonomy of local government councils and State Houses of Assembly, the governor said he is not against the independence of council  autonomy as well as the independence of the state houses of assembly, adding that such freedom had been in operation in the state even before now.
