Kpakor: Eagles will come home with AFCON trophy

A member of the Super Eagles team to Algeria 1990, Moses Kpakor has said going by the resurgence in the Eagles, nothing that will stop the team from coming home with the AFCON 2013 trophy.
Speaking to Daily Trust on phone, Kpakor ‘the former policeman’ of Nigerian football said even before now, he knew that the Super Eagles would win their third African title in South Africa.
He said the players have shown greater commitment and are ready to lay down their lives for the country saying if they keep up the tempo, nothing will stop them from winning the Cup on Sunday.
“For me the performance of the Eagles so far is not a surprise. I saw this coming and I have said it at different fora that the Eagles are going to win the trophy. The team is playing good football and with such commitment, it will be difficult for any team to stop the Eagles.
“When the competition started, the Eagles did not impress but I knew that that they will settle into the competition later. In 1990, we started badly against Algeria in the opening match but we went all the way to the finals”, he recalled.
Kpakor attributed the team’s outstanding performance to coach keshi’s diligence in selection of his players as he said his former team mate in the Eagles knows exactly the kind of players he wanted.
The former BCC Lions of Gboko playmaker said many people did not support Keshi when he wanted to work with local players but he has been vindicated by the excellent performances of Sunday Mba and Godfrey Oboabona.
“Keshi is succeeding because he has made the right selection of players to work with him. He has done the right thing by combining foreign players with the home based ones to produce a formidable team”.
Kpakor therefore urged the Super Eagles to remain focused on the final match on Sunday as he said the team will have enough time to relax and celebrate after winning the trophy.
