The Inspector General of Police, IGP Mohammed Dahiru Abubakar has inaugurated three major committees to help organize the 10th biennial Nigeria Police Games commencing February 24 in Port Harcourt.
Inaugurating the committees on behalf of the IGP over the weekend in Abuja, DIG Suleiman D Fakai, said highly placed business executives and eminent Nigerians were drafted into the three committees, namely Main Organising Committee (MOC), Financial and Media/Publicity Committees, for them to use their connections to raise N500 million funds for the Games.
He said “As worthy friends of the Nigeria Police, we have called you to share with us your enormous wealth of experience in order to add glamour to the Games. The IGP believes in your capabilities in making the Games a huge success.
“This has informed your inclusion into the committee and as patrons of various associations of the Games. We are ready for the Games,” he assured.
In her speech at the inauguration, chairman of the Games, CP Abimbola Macaulay, said the Games would succeed only if members of the various sub-committees make the required contributions.
“Many are called but few are chosen and you are chosen by God to help Nigeria Police. I know that it is only Nigerians with good heart and love for the people and sports that can respond the way you have done.”
“I want to assure you that in our effort to make Nigeria a better sporting country, we will never relent. However, we know that we cannot do it alone. We need support from you and other good people of this country.
“We are condemned to set standard in making the Games the very best because the IGP MD Abubakar is known as a man with big stake in Nigerian sports. With your involvement, our expectation will come to reality. Assists us and you must have contributed in making Nigerian police proud”, she said.
