Etim charges Eagles to beat Burkina Faso

As Super Eagles get set to battle Burkina Faso in their first game of the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations at the Mbombela Stadium, Nelspruit⁠, South Africa today, former international, Etim Esin has charged the team to go for the three points at stake.

Speaking to Trustsports yesterday Esin said although matches played on day one of the championship ended in barren draws, the Super Eagles must go for the maximum points.

He urged the Eagles to make a difference when they take on the Burkinabes this evening with a resounding victory.

“Our team should play for the three points at stake with goals to better the teams that have been playing barren draws.

“I want the team to beat Burkina Faso not only to boost Nigerians’ confidence in them, but to also boost their own morale that they begin the Nations Cup with a win. The first match of any competition is always very crucial and winning this one will be better for us,”

Esin said that he has a strong belief that Chief Coach Stephen Keshi would deliver at the Nations Cup.

“Keshi was my captain when I was playing in the Eagles. He had won the Nations Cup as a player and I know he would be dreaming to win it as a coach now. So he has imparted a lot on the players, it is now left for the players to do their own bit of the job by delivering what Nigerian are expecting from them.

“I still want to say they should go for goals against Burkina Faso and win their first match”.
