APGA crisis: Ojukwu’s son appointed BOT member
Category: Inside politics Written by Andrew Agbese & Abbas Jimoh
The faction of the All Progressives’ Grand Alliance (APGA) led by Chief Victor Umeh has brought Chief Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu Jnr, son of late Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu , who was the leader of the party, to take over the seat of his father on the Board of Trustees of the party.
The support by Ojukwu’s son to any of the two factions of APGA seen as the joker that will prove which of them has the blessings of the late leader of the party.
Rising from a National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting of the party yesterday, all the 36 state chairmen and secretaries of the party said the nomination of Ojukwu’s son is in deference to his late father who was the leader of the party and that the BOT will be constituted in the next meeting of the party’s NEC.
The NEC rejected the judgment of the Enugu High Court sacking Umeh as chairman of the party and affirmed its support to the appeal filed by Umeh challenging the judgment. It also condemned the convening of a meeting of the party by the Anambra State governor, Mr. Peter Obi where he constituted an interim National Working Committee (NWC) of the party saying the action is an abuse and breach of APGA’s constitution.
“We hereby call on His Excellency, Mr. Peter Obi to refrain from his unconstitutional acts of destabilising the party and express our support to Chief Umeh,” they stated.
