Disquite in Nasarawa over lack of cabinet
Category: Inside politics Written by Hir Joseph, Lafia
The people of Nasarawa have expressed worry that Governor Umaru Tanko Al-Makura has not appointed a cabinet a month after he sacked the former one.
The governor sacked his cabinet of 18 commissioners and special advisers as well as Secretary to the State Government (SSG), on January 28, but has not given any reasons for the sack.
Today makes it one full month after the sack which has generated political heat within the state because of the interest of lobbyists who have continually put pressure on the governor.
Much of the governor’s core loyalists who were disengaged are said to have bounced back on the list of nominees so far in the governor’s hands, but sources said most of them will get portfolios different from where they served before they were disengaged.
The governor is believed to be at the point of sending a list of nomination to the state House of Assembly (NSHA) for screening.
Chief press secretary to the governor, Iliyasu Ali Yakubu, confirmed that the governor “will send the list of nominees within the week,” when he spoke to Daily Trust on phone, yesterday.
