APC youths seek Akume’s resignation
Category: Inside politics Written by John Chuks Azu
The Youth wing of the All Progres-sives Congress, (APC) has called on the Senate majority leader, Senator George Akume, to resign and clear his name in court over allegations of forgery.
While addressing protesters at the National Assembly complex, Comrade Daniels Momoh said Akume, who speaks for the newly formed political should resign to save the image of the party.
The protesters, who were pre-vented by the police from entering the premises of the National Assembly, carried placards bearing various inscriptions such as: ‘Go and clear your name in court’, ‘Say no to fraud, we are not convinced’ and ‘Akume resign to save our party’.
The youths also forwarded let-ters to Senator Akume and copied the Senate President David Mark, APC national leaders Muhammadu Buhari, Bola Tinubu and the party’s senators over the allegations.
When contacted the legal assis-tant to Senator Akume, Mrs Beckie Orpin described the protest as orchestrated demonstration to damage the image of the senator.
She called attention to the Daily Trust advertorial of February 19, page 52 where the senator published copies of his certificates explaining that were lost in 2002 and that he obtained an affidavit to that effect.
