Kugama was endorsed in error — Bamanga

People’s Democratic Party (PDP) national chairman, Alhaji Bamanga Tukur has asked members of the party in Adamawa to ignore the Alhaji Umaru Kaugama led executive of the party in the state saying its endorsement months back, by some members of the National Working Committee (NWC) of the party was done in error.
Bamanga is supporting the Joel Madaki led executive while Governor  Murtala Nyako is backing the Kaugama led faction.
On his return from Abuja  last week, Nyako announced that the Adamawa PDP leadership problem had been resolved and declared the Alhaji Umaru Kugama led state executive as the authentic leadership of the party in the state while Bamanga is insisting the Chief Joel Madaki led executive is the authentic leadership of the party in the state.
Bamanga who was in Yola said all he knows is that the Madaki led executive was returned through an election conducted by a caretaker committee appointed by the National Working Committee (NWC)  of the party when the Kugama led executive was dissolved last year.
He explained that the later decision by some members of NWC re-instating the Kugama led executive was done in error and should be ignored as the party constitution showed that it was only the party chairman that is empowered to call NWC meeting stressing that the meeting of NWC where Kugama was said to have been re-instated was done in error.
“People have spoken, they have elected Joel Madaki as the chairman of PDP in Adamawa state”, he said.
Reacting swiftly to Tukur’s position on the issue, secretary of Kugama executive, Mr P.P Elisha, accused the national chairman of trying to cause confusion and breach of peace in the state.
Elisha said the chairman’s action was not in line with the party’s constitution pointing out that contrary to Tukur’s claim he was not the only one bestowed with the power to summon NWC meeting.
“Go to section 29 sub section 3 of the constitution of PDP states clearly that the NWC is in charge of day to day running of the affairs of the  party and that the meeting of NWC can be convene at the instance of the chairman or two-third of members. In my arithmetic, 10 out of 12 NWC members who re-instated  Kugama constituted more than two-third and what they did cannot be said to be illegal as claimed by the national chairman.”
