Former vice presidential candidate of the Cong-ress for Progressive Change (CPC) and convener, Save Nigeria group, Pastor Tunde Bakare has berated President Goodluck Jonathan for keeping silent over the non-compliance to the rule of law in Enugu, Taraba and Cross Rivers states where the governors have embarked on medical trips.

Bakare berated the President while delivering his opening address at the one year anniversary to commemorate the nationwide fuel subsidy removal protest held by SNG in Lagos. He said the protest exposed the underbelly of corruption in government.

“The worst case in this scenario is that of Enugu state where there has not been any official word from those in government since Governor Sullivan Chime left about four months ago. The citizens of the state now had to rely on rumour mill to get information about their governor. The silence of the state assemblies is quite worrisome in spite of the constitutional provisions that address issues like this.

“It has also exposed the level of degradation in our nascent democracy where the governors are the sole determinants of politics in their respective states. All said, the most pathetic of all is the silence of the State House of Assembly. More worrisome is the silence of President Goodluck Jonathan who is a direct beneficiary of Save Nigeria Group protest in 2010. It shows that there is no more authority in the land to enforce the rule of law,” Bakare said.

Bakare lamented that the same culture impunity which the Save Nigeria Group fought on the streets of Abuja and Lagos in January 2010 when some cabal who claimed to be acting for the ailing President Umaru Musa Yar’Adua refused to allow the rule of law to take place, is what is now playing out in the three affected states.

“It was a terrible deja vu few days ago, when the photograph of Taraba state governor who was said to have sustained brain damage. Instead of providing the true medical report of the governor, as stated in the constitution, what we have is amateurish photograph being staged on the front pages of the newspapers,” Bakare said.

Bakare also recounted that in Cross Rivers state, Governor Liyel Imoke had also embarked on a two months accumulated leave without telling the people the true state of his health.
