Adamawa LG election tribunal receives 38 petitions

The election petition tribunal set up by the Adamawa State Govern-ment to look into complaints arising from the conduct of the November 24, 2012 local government election in the state has received 38 petitions.
14 political parties partici-pated in the election which saw the PDP winning all the 21 local government chair-manship seats.
The opposition political parties contested the outcome of the election saying it fell short of electoral standard as there was no level playing ground for all the contestants.
Secretary of the LG petition tribunal Mr. Hashimu Suleiman, said out of the 38 petitions so far received, the National Conscience Party (NCP) alone filed 12 petitions while the rest of the petitions were filed by the Congress for Progressive Change (CPC).
He said there are 23 petitions for chairmanship and 15 for councillorship, adding that the tribunal  has already commenced sitting.
