This was contained in a communiqué jointly signed by Chief Chekwas Okorie and Barrister Bello Umar, National Chairman and National Secretary respectively, during the party’s third National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting on Thursday in Abuja. The statement said: “Prince O.N.C. Akanegbu has voluntarily withdrawn his candidature in favour of Prof. Benedict Ndubuisi Akanegbu, while Sunny Chuba Nwachukwu has done the same in favour of Prince Ifeanyi Ezechukwu. Consequently, NEC reviewed the strategic reasons for the withdrawal of the above candidates and substituting them with other candidates and approved the initiative. NEC commended the candidates who displayed unprecedented commitment and loyalty to the party and congratulated the new candidates who will bear our party’s flag for the governorship election in Anambra State come November 16, 2013.” The statement urged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to conduct a credible and transparent election in the state, warning that its success or failure will have great impact on the 2015 general elections.
