19 die of measles, meningitis in Kebbi

Nineteen children have been confirmed dead in the current outbreak of measles and meningitis in Kebbi state, a director in the state Primary Healthcare Development Agency, Sani Yusuf said yesterday.
“Between January and February ending, a total of 2,375 cases of measles outbreak were recorded in 13 local government areas with 11 deaths.
“We also have 18 cases and about eight deaths from suspected Serebro Spinal Meningitis (SSM) outbreak involving Gwandu and Aliero local government areas and we are still awaiting confirmation from our main laboratory in the World Health Organization (WHO),” he said.
He said that Birnin Kebbi has the highest case of measles of up to 1,351, Gwandu 214, Meyama 185, Arewa 148, Bunza 91, Koko Bese 85, Augie 73, Kalgo 60, Yauri and Danko Wasagu had 48 each, Bagudo 40, Zuru 23 and Aliero nine cases.
