Insecurity, threat to future elections – Ekiti REC

The Resident Electoral Commissioner in Ekiti State, Alhaji Halilu Pai, yesterday  said conduct of future elections in the country, especially in the North, may be difficult following the continued violence in the area.
He said the situation called for a serious concern, adding that the problem should be addressed with the urgency it required.
Speaking with journalists in Ado-Ekiti, after the orientation programme for newly recruited staff of the commission, Pai tasked security agencies to find an effective way of tackling the problem which he noted had consumed many lives.
“The violence in some parts of the country is giving us concern, it must not continue this way. The security agencies and other influential Nigerians must ensure that this situation does not continue. If the violence is not arrested, it can affect the conduct of future elections. Everybody knows that elections can’t be conducted in an insecure environment,” he said.
