DAARSat returns to the airwaves

Rested satellite paid television, DAARsat, operated by the African Independent Television (AIT), is staging a comeback four years after it suspended operations.

It will recommence operations tomorrow - Friday, Managing Director of the company, Dr. Pedro Obaseki said yesterday at a press conference in Abuja.

Obaseki said DAARsat was the first indigenous paid television in Nigeria but that it went down as the ultimate prize to create an image in the Nigeria broadcasting market.

“DAARSat is back and better. It cannot go down since AIT/Raypower cannot go down,” Obaseki announced.

According to him, the company is re-branding and also re-launching, having put in place different programmes expected to attract people’s interest.

“It is the first native host to put indigenous programmes such as the Yoruba, Igbo and Hausa channels, which have been hijacked by other providers, and has packaged the programmes in more interesting ways that will be attractive to viewers,” he said.

He said the re-launched DAARSat will have over 35 channels including educational channels that will cater to pupils and students.

The Director, Educational Service of DAARSat, Raymond Dokpesi (Jnr) said, “The need to have educational channels to help the students has become necessary given that over 2000 pupils failed the West African Senior Secondary School Examination in 2011. We found out that it was not that the students are poor but they lack quality hands and facility to give them the best.”
