The Senate has stood down a bill seeking to prohibit internet fraud popularly known as “yahoo-yahoo.” The bill, tagged “A Bill for an Act for Prohibition and Punishment for Electronic Fraud and Electronic Transfer of Funds in Nigeria and Other Related Matters 2013” was stood down yesterday owing to the failure of its sponsor, Senator Adegbenga Sefiu Kaka (ACN, Ogun East), to provide its financial compendium and background information. Senate President David Mark and other senators disregarded Kaka’s explanation that the bill has no financial implication.
