ICPC indicts Nigerian varsities for corruption

Reports filed by a committee set up by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has indicted Nigeria’s tertiary institutions for corruption.
The committee was set up last year to look into several petitions filed before ICPC on corruption, sexual harassments in the Nigeria’s tertiary institutions.
Three institutions were selected for the pilot phase, which included the Federal University of Nigeria, Nsukka, Olabisi Onabanjo University, Ago Iwoye and Salem University, Lokoja.
ICPC chairman Mr. Ekpo Nta said the findings revealed selling of exams questions papers, swapping of examination grades and writing exams by proxy, direct cheatings, delay in releasing exam results and poor record keeping.
“In a way, Nigeria’s tertiary institutions that are expected to be at the vanguard of ethical education to correct the ills of the society have themselves become the haven for corruption and corruption related practices,” he said.
