Inadequate doctors, nurses worries Bauchi govt

The Bauchi State government has reiterated its determination to tackle the problem of inadequate doctors and nurses in its hospitals and primary health care centers.

Executive Chairman of State Primary Health Care Development Agency, Dr Nisser Ali Umar, said this at the end of a sensitization workshop for traditional and religious leaders on the need to promote routine immunization, maternal and child health services in the state.

Dr Umar said initially, primary health care centers were under local government councils, and that in an effort to improve them, the state government transferred them under state primary health care agency.

He described the refusal of parents and guardians to have their children/ wards immunised as unfortunate, saying efforts are being made by government to rid the state of polio.

“Vaccines and other logistics provided by the government are being wasted as our people do not take their children for immunization. There is need for information to flow so that people will know the importance of immunization and other health services,” he said.
