Oyo: NURTW partner police in crime reduction

The National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), Oyo State Council has announced its commitment to partner the Nigeria Police in the on-going efforts to rid the state of crimes.

This was contained in an address delivered by the Chairman of the NURTW in Oyo State, Alhaji Taofeek Oyerinde at the inauguration of the union executive council for Ibadan North East I Inte- State held today at the popular Agodi Gate Motor Park, Ibadan.

While commending Oyo State Government for putting in place the joint military/police security patrol team code-named “Operation Burst”, Oyerinde described the development as a right step in the right direction saying it has helped greatly in checkmating the menace of armed gangsterism and other criminal activities across the state.

Specifically, the NURTW chairman hailed Oyo State Government for “its high sense of crisis management” which, according to him, had seen the road transport workers union out of terrible crisis that could have consumed the union.

He highlighted the ongoing transformation processes within Oyo NURTW since his assumption of office stressing that it is a new dawn of positive change in the union in the state.

To this end, he urged all NURTW members across the state to continue to be law abiding and cooperate with the security operatives by shunning all acts that tantamount to criminality in all its ramifications.

The NURTW chairman declared:  “It is high time we continued to mend the image of the National Union of Road Transport Workers and ensure good drivers and passengers relationship.  Our relationship with the community must also be mutually cordial at all times. We do not need to rethink over past difficulties, but we should correctly learn our lessons from such past mistakes.  Our past successes should also help us to correctly approach coming challenges.”

Oyerinde stated that any member found to be fomenting trouble whatsoever should be picked up by the security operatives and made to face the music.

 “It is for this main reason that I am calling on members of the public as well as the security operatives to be vigilant and be security conscious, at all times” he said.
