NIMET predicts favourable weather for farming

The Nigerian Metrological Agency (NIMET) has predicted that there will be favourable weather for agricultural activities in Ekiti State and Nigeria in general this year.

The agency stated this in a statement from the office of the Coordinator of the Agro-Climatologically Unit of the state’s Ministry of Agriculture and Natural Resources. It added that there would be no drought during the year.

According to the statement, the year 2013 edition of seasonal rainfall prediction as presented to the public by NIMET in Abuja envisaged that onset date of rainfall is March 8, while the cessation date commences from November 10 to December 8, and the amount of rainfall is expected to be between 1,507mm and 2,309mm.

The statement further stated that the raining season for the year is expected to be normal, but would vary from 2000mm to 3,000 in the Southern part of the country, while the extreme Northern parts would have between 1,000 to 1,500mm.

It explained that the annual predictions on weather, rainfall and climate matters provided vital information to advise as well as educate all tiers of government and other stakeholders to enable them make informed decisions in the agricultural sector.
