Primary school teachers in Fika Local Government Area of Yobe State have threatened to embark on strike over what they called diversion of their November salary.

Speaking to Daily Trust,  NUT chairman, Fika Local Government chapter, Alhaji Inusa  Jeje, said the action became necessary following failed attempts to solve the matter at both the state and local government levels.

“We were to embark on the strike on February 5, 2013, but it was postponed to February 28, 2013,  after the Fika Local Government chairman and SUBEB chairman intervened. Since then, we have not heard from them, and by all indications they are not ready to do anything about it. The last time we contacted SUBEB, they said they don’t even know how to present the issue to the governor,” he said.

It was gathered that the salary is about N28 million, and that the staff affected are over one thousand.

When contacted, the SUBEB permanent secretary, Alhaji Bullama Budu, said a committee was set up to investigate the matter, and that the LEA education secretary, cashier and accountant have already been suspended.
