Reps condemn Nasarawa State University killings

The House of Representatives has condemned the killing of some students by the Nigerian Army at the Nasarawa State University Keffi yesterday.
 
The House while condemning the killing of four students of the university by some members of the Nigerian army described it as wrong the deployment of police and military men with live ammunitions to quell a peaceful protest.
 
The resolution followed a motion on the killing of students of the Nasarawa state university Keffi yesterday. The sponsor of the motion Hon Kingsley Chinda (Rivers State) expressed disappointment that sophisticated live ammunition had been used against students’ peacefully protesting lack of water and electricity supply in their school.
 
“This current case is one too many in cases of extrajudicial killings by men of the police and armed forces that daily take place in the university campuses and several other parts of the country against defenseless innocent students and citizens” Mr Chinda said.
 
The House urged the Inspector General of police and other relevant security agencies to immediately take steps to forestall further break down of law and order. It urged the Nasarawa state government to take proactive measures to ensure the safety of lives and properties in the affected area, pending the outcome of an investigation into the matter.
