Man sacked over Facebook comments demands N6.6m compensation

Staff of the Bauchi State Ministry of Finance, Abbas Ahmed Faggo, who was sacked over derogatory comments he allegedly made on his facebook page about Governor Isa Yuguda of Bauchi State, has filed a fresh suit against the Bauchi State government, police and Attorney General, demanding N6.6 million as compensation.
In the suit which was filed yesterday by his counsel, Barrister Usman Bappah Darazo before the Bauchi State High Court, Faggo alleged that he was arrested and detained for 13 days without bail or trial, and that it took the police at the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) 12 days to inform him of the allegations levelled against him.
Faggo further stated that when he was arraigned in court, his counsel faulted the charges made against him, and he was granted bail and the case struck out.
He said his trial and incarceration have ruined his reputation before the public, his family and friends.
The plaintiff therefore asked the court to compel the state government to pay him N2 million as damage for injury suffered, N2 million as damage for injury to his reputation, and another N2 million for injury suffered as a result of the loss of his job. He also demanded N600,000, as solicitors fees.
The case has been assigned to the state High Court 8, but no date has been fixed for hearing yet.
