UNIMAID lecturer abducted in error, captors demands N5m ransom

Kidnappers of Dr Abba Kagu, an associate professor of Geography at the University of Maiduguri (UNIMAID) are demanding for a ransom of N5 million after explaining that they picked him in error, sources close to the family said.
Kagu was picked on Saturday evening at the Federal Low cost housing estate in Maiduguri.
Sources at UNIMAID said they learnt that Kagu was a victim of “mistaken identity” and reiterated the need for his immediate release.
“The abductors mistook him for a brother in law of a prominent politician in Borno State. Initially, they demanded for N100m but when they realized that they picked the wrong person, they demanded for N5 million...insisting he cannot go free,” the source, who craved for anonymity said.
When our correspondent visited the department of geography at the university, lecturers and students were seen lamenting.
A source close to the family said they have resorted to prayers and called on their acquaintances to also intensify prayers.
