JTF kills armed robber in Maiduguri

Two suspected armed robbers, who allegedly robbed a shop behind the Monday Market in Maiduguri yesterday, met their waterloo when one of them was killed, another one captured alive while two of their accomplice escaped from the scene.
Witnesses said the four suspects, armed with rifles found their way to the shop through the Babban Layi and carted away unspecified amount of money from the merchant.
“The robbers brandished their guns immediately they entered the shop after pretending as if they were there to buy something. They took unspecified amount of money but before they escaped, other traders summoned courage and alerted men of the Joint Task (JTF) who mobilized to the crime scene immediately and pursued the assailants,” he said.
He said two of the robbers were overwhelmed and when one of them attempted to resist arrest, the soldiers shot him dead.
Spokesman of the JTF, Lieutenant Colonel Sagir Musa said the incident was a terrorist’s act. “Based on information, the JTF troops had an encounter with Boko Haram terrorists behind the Specialists Hospital in Maiduguri at about 1.05pm which resulted in the death of one terrorist,” he said.
In a related development, shortly after the encounter, JTF troops rounded up hundreds of youths and traders around the Monday Market and the Post of Office and directed them to go into the nearby Sanda Kyarimi Zoo and amusement park.
