We are not underfunded –Sokoto LGs

Sokoto State chapter of the Association of Local Government of Nigeria (ALGON) has said that local councils in the state are not in any way starved of funds by the governor, Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko, as reported in the media recently.
The ALGON chairman, Alhaji Abdullahi Garba Sidi, told newsmen in Sokoto that the statement credited to the president of the National Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE), Alhaji Ibrahim Khaleel, accusing state governors in the North-West zone of being the major stumbling block to development in councils was “mischievous and untrue.”
Khaleel was said to have accused governors of states in the North-west region of hindering the development of local government councils by not allowing regular conduct of elections.
The ALGON chairman said there is a cordial relationship between the state governor and the 23 council chairmen.
He added that elections were conducted by Wamakko in 2007 and 2011 respectively.
He added that capital projects executed by the 23 local government councils in the state under a joint project with the state government are many.
