Ondo govt suspends monarch over misconduct

The Ondo State government has approved suspension of the traditional ruler of Igburowo community in Odigbo Local Government Area, Oba Pius Akinfesola Adewola, over what it called gross misconduct.

The suspension letter, which was signed by the Permanent Secretary, Ondo State Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Mr. Ade Adeola, said the embattled monarch was suspended following a letter of protest written by the people of Igburowo community to the government, which requested the deposition of the traditional ruler over “his behaviour.”

Our correspondent reports that people of the community had embarked on a peaceful demonstration on August 26, 2012, during which the monarch was chased out of his palace over an allegation that he was tarnishing the image of the community.

Daily Trust further gathered that during the protest, Oba Adewola was driven out of his palace and made to walk several kilometers from the palace on bare feet until a detachment of policemen who were drafted to maintain law and order intervened.

When contacted, the embattled monarch confirmed receipt of the letter, but added that he has made necessary arrangements to challenge his suspension in court.
