Osun State Governor Rauf Aregbesola has restated the resolve of his administration to turn the state into the food basket of not only the South-West region, but the nation as a whole.
The governor, who spoke in Osogbo during the distribution of farm implements to 1,830 farmers from the 61 communities under the second phase of replication of UNICEF community development initiative programme, said he would continue to empower farmers in a bid to revolutionize the agricultural sector and ensure massive food production.
The governor added that his administration would give priority to transformation of the state to enviable heights, and the execution of people oriented projects.
“I am very optimistic that with the host of programmes put in place by this administration to revolutionize the agricultural sector, Osun State in no distant time will become the food basket of not only the South-west states, but the nation as a whole. Our administration will continue to distribute farm implements to farmers on annual basis. Apart from this, efforts would be made to increase the number of beneficiaries to ensure easy access of more farmers to this annual government gesture,” he said.
Also speaking, Special Adviser to the Governor on Rural and Community Development, Mr Kunle Ige, said the beneficiaries have been duly certified and accredited as farmers in their various communities.
