Offa/Erinle probe panel begins sitting

The judicial commission of enquiry into Erin-Ile/Offa communal crisis has commenced sitting in Ilorin.
Speaking at the inaugural sitting, chairman of the commission, Justice Adeyinka Sikiru Oyinloye, said they are expected to gather facts concerning the crisis, and charged the councils to avoid unnecessary technicalities that could delay the proceedings.
He reminded them that the commission had six weeks to submit its report.
Justice Oyinloye also sought the cooperation of members of the commission and the general public to ensure a peaceful conduct of its mandate.
He said those who do not have anything to do with the commission’s work should stay away from proceedings.
In their separate responses, counsel to Offa and Erin-Ile communities, Dr Bello Shittu and Barrister Muyideen Adekoyejo Bello, commended the state government for setting up the commission and expressed confidence in the capacity of the commission to carry out the assignment.
