Railway recruits 31 graduates as locomotive drivers

The Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) has trained 31 holders of Ordinary and Higher National Diploma (OND and HND) as locomotive engine drivers in an effort to boost its services nationwide.
Speaking at the weekend during the graduation ceremony in Zaria, the corporation’s Director of Administration and Human Resources, Dr. Aminu Gusau, charged the trained train drivers to be professional in the discharge of their duties.
“As new educated drivers, I urge you to maintain the habit of composure while discharging your duty. Do not hesitate to ask questions from those you meet on the job. Bow down and learn from them so that you can gain practical skills to move the corporation forward,” Gusau said.
Stressing the importance of railway to the unity of Nigeria, Gusau said unification can be achieved through the rail transport as the antecedence of the railway have proved.
“It is vital to note that unionism started from NRC, Nigeria Port Authority emanated as result of NRC and many Nigerians worked in different places far away from their states of origin. Many prominent Nigerians were born and bred at different parts of Nigeria because their parents were NRC workers in those golden days,” he said.
In his speech, the District Human Resource Officer, Zaria, Mr. Taufiq Adisa, applauded the efforts of the federal government toward transforming the railways.
