Reps task contractors on diligence

The House of Representative Committee on Customs and Excise has charged contractors handling different projects for the Nigerian Customs Service across the country to double their efforts.

Vice chairman of the committee, Chinda Kingsley Ogundu, gave the charge when he led other members to Kano to inspect projects executed by one of the contractors, Cotecna Destination Inspection Limited, at the Malam Aminu Kano International Airport and at the Nigeria and Niger republic border located in Jibia Local Government Area of Katsina State. He said the visit was to ensure that Nigerians get quality services from contractors.

“We are on this oversight function to ensure that the contractor handling the projects is executing them accordingly and also to know firsthand the challenges faced by the Customs officials,” he said.

He charged the men and officers of the Nigerian Customs Service to perform their duties without fear or favour.

Members of the committee expressed satisfaction with the level of work done and also urged the contractor to improve on some areas.

Earlier, the Deputy Managing Director of Cotecna Destination Inspection Limited, Mr. Eranest Woka, conducted the members round the pellet scanner machine installed at the MAKIA. And at the Jibia border, Mr. Woka showed the members round the mobile scanner machine for scanning trucks and cars coming into the country through the border, saying the truck installed since 2010 is capable of scanning over 200 trucks and cars daily.
