Emir tasks traditional rulers on maternal mortality

Emir of Zazzau, Alhaji Shehu Idris, has  tasked traditional rulers in the North to intensify campaigns against maternal mortality in their domains. Speaking during a stakeholders meeting organised by the Population and Reproductive Health Initiative of the Ahmadu Bello University Teaching Hospital (ABUTH), he lamented the increase in maternal mortality in the region. The emir, who represented by Dr. Bello Abdulkadir Salanke, lamented that most of the deaths were recorded in the North-west and North-east regions. “Apart from this, our women hardly go to hospitals to give births. Out of 100 women that go for anti-natal, only about 10 deliver in the hospital. This is why it is important for us to support the organisers of this sensitization program”, he said.
