Establishment of more FRCN stations paid off –Obasanjo

Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has urged Nigerian leaders to always put in place structures and institutions capable of creating indelible marks on the minds of the people.
Obasanjo, who spoke at the celebration of the 10th anniversary of the Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria (FRCN) Progress FM 100.5, Ado-Ekiti, Ekiti State, said such institutions remained the only legacies that could outlive a leader and endear him in the hearts of the citizens.
Represented by former Governor of Ekiti State Segun Oni, Obasanjo commended his administration for increasing the number of FRCN and NTA, saying there was no state in the federation without the federal radio station and NTA station.
The number of institutions created by a government, according to him, was one of the benchmarks to gauge the performance of a government in a civilized environment.
“My government was able to multiply the number of Radio Nigeria and NTA Stations to the extent that every state in Nigeria has at least a station. Communication is key in the mobilization of the citizens to do the right thing and support the government of the day,” he said.
Obasanjo, who expressed satisfaction with the performance of FRCN across the country, said the PDP government at the centre had been able to sustain the institutions he established under his government.
Ekiti State governor Kayode Fayemi, who was represented by Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Information, Mr Kola Ajumobi, said his government would continue to provide the atmosphere for the media to thrive within the threshold of the law.
