UNILAG graduates 91 first class graduates

An overall total of 91 graduating students of University of Lagos (UNILAG)who obtained Bachelor Degrees in different courses have graduated with First Class Honours from the institution.

At the first of the 2013 convocation ceremony held on Wednesday, the Varsity Vice Chancellor, Prof. Rahman Bello said a total of 2,353 students who have successfully completed their studies participated their studies which cut across diplomas, certificates and degrees in the faculties of Arts, Education, environmental Sciences, Social sciences and Distance Learning Institute.

"An overall of 91 graduating students finished with First Class Honours. Amazingly, this year, our two best graduating students are Ibok Favour Asuquo of the department of Accounting with Cumulative Grade Point (CGPA) of 4.89 and Miss Gabtony Flora Nkeiru of the department of Psychology with CGPA of 4.88," the Vice Chancellor said.

Prof. Bello said the institution has made a resolve to continuously supply Nigeria with first brains that can compete favourably with their counterparts in any part of the world. This, he noted is geared towards making the institution a top-class in its pursuit of excellence.

"I will not fail to remind you that the vision of the University of Lagos remains: to be a top-class institution for the pursuit of excellence in knowledge through learning, research and community service. We have vigorously maintained that tradition over the years," Prof. Bello said.

On the controversy that surrounds the name that will be contained on the certificate being issued to the students, Prof. Bello said the controversy has been doused as he has the backing of the presidency that the institution's name still remain UNILAG and not MOshood Abiola University and as such the certificates to be issued to the students " will be bear University of Lagos and not any other name."
