4 gunmen, not soccer fans, killed in Mubi –Army

Four gunmen were killed in Mubi Local Government Area of Adamawa State when suspected terrorists attacked troops deployed in the area to maintain peace and order, Commander of the 23rd Armoured Brigade of the Army, Major General John Nwaoga, has said.

Nwaoga, who denied reports that soldiers killed soccer fans in the area, said the gunmen attacked the troop, and that during the gun battle, four insurgents were killed.

“A JTF personnel was injured during the exchange of fire, no civilian casualty was recorded,” he said.

He added that the army are law abiding citizens, and would not engage in extra judiciary killings.

General Nwaoga said the military intervention in Mubi was aimed at flushing out “notorious elements in the town which has been under siege by suspected gunmen.”

He however reiterated the resolve and commitment of the military, police and State Security Service to rid Mubi of criminals.
