NSE decries marginalization by foreign firms

The Nigeria Society of Engineers (NSE) has accused foreign multi-national construction companies working in Nigeria of marginalizing their members.

It said the multi-national companies are not allowing indigenous engineers to also participate in the work despite their ability to do so and this is despite several appeals made by the society.

Speaking in Kano at the weekend, chairman of Kano chapter of the society Engr. Ismail Lawan Shariff said despite the fact that the indigenous engineers are highly qualified still not very many of them are involved in home construction works.

He cited as example the ongoing Kano fly-over project which he lamented that had no any indigenous engineer working there. “If not that Kano government has insisted that there should be indigenous supervisors of the construction work and sent 20 of such professionals, we wouldn’t have been part of it,” he said.

He said very soon they would evolve measures that would begin to compel any multinational company that is handling projects in the country to use the services of indigenous engineers.

Yakasai, who commended Governor Kwankwaso for the fly-over, said the bridge would definitely reduce heavy traffic that has engulfed the state and continued to constitute nuisance to every right thinking persons.
