Bizman’s mum murdered in Yola
The mother of a prominent businessman in Yola, Adamawa State capital, Alhaji Babangida Sabo, was murdered Saturday night by a knife-wielding lone man, police and residents said.
Hajiya Hauwa, believed to be around 80, was murdered in her house in Jimeta-Yola around the time of Isha’i (late evening) prayers on Saturday.
“The suspect entered the house with a knife and slaughtered her,” a source said.
Two persons who attempted to rescue her were injured by the suspect, the source added.
He was eventually overpowered and arrested.
Some sources said her prominent son, Babangida, who engages in various businesses including fuel marketing and transport, might be the target. He was in Cameroun Republic at the time of the incident.
Police spokesman Ibrahim Mohammed confirmed the killing to Daily Trust yesterday and said the suspect is in police custody.
“One man was arrested over the murder of an old woman. He had also injured two people,” Mohammed said.
“The case is being investigated and he (the suspect) may lead us to more suspects,” he added.
Sources said the suspect appeared to be under the influence of drugs or alcohol at the time he was arrested.
Hajiya Hauwa was buried yesterday in accordance with Islamic rites.
She left behind many grown up children including Dr Sabo, owner of Sauki Clinic in Yola, and many grand children and other relatives.
