Corruption, poverty threat to national growth – Tambuwal

The Speaker, House of Representatives, Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, weekend identified corruption and poverty as social menace that are detrimental to Nigeria’s growth and development.
Tambuwal stated this at a lecture titled; “Religion, Ethnicity and Corruption: Challenges of National Security” held at Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Samaru, Zaria on Saturday.
Tambuwal, who was represented by Rep Bashir Adamu, Chairman, House Committee on Defence, said corruption is not only found in the public service but it cuts across all segments of lives in Nigeria including schools, businesses and even private homes.
“In the same vein, unity of Nigeria is a foregone conclusion; this should be a topmost priority because the idea of separation is not an issue. For democracy to succeed, people must learn to accommodate, tolerate and embrace one another.”
In his speech, the ABU Vice-Chancellor, Professor Abdullahi Mustapha, observed that some conflicts emanates from the grassroots and spread across the country.
