Lagos gets 10 new judges

The Lagos State Chief Judge, Justice Ayotunde Phillips, has appointed ten new judges from the state judiciary as judges of the Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR). At a press briefing to mark the formal commencement of the High Court of Lagos State Civil Procedure Rules 2012, Phillips said the development would guarantee speedy administration of justice.  According to the chief judge, the appointed judges are to deal with all civil processes on the track, facilitate the speedy referral of matters to ADR, deal with recalcitrant parties, adopt terms of settlement as consent judgments and enforce judgments. He also allayed fears being exercised by some lawyers over the introduction of the ADR, assuring that parties would be given fair and equitable opportunities in resolving their disputes.
