Barbedos, Zamfara at loggerheads over N2bn fertilizer claims

Zamfara State government is foot dragging over payment of N2billion fertilizer claims granted to it by the state high court, the management of Barbedos Ventures Limited said yesterday.
In a statement yesterday, Barbedos said the monies were granted to the company by the Zamfara State High Court through a garnishee order as outstanding payments for the supply of fertilizer to the state.
“The Zamfara State High Court of Justice has garnished Zamfara State FAAC Account by it Order Nisi dated 29/11/12 in favour of Barbedos Ventures Ltd against First Bank Nig Plc. The total judgment sum as at date stand at N2, 012, 616,752.20. On the 8th of January 2013 the Garnishee Order nisi was made absolute in favour of Barbedos Ventures Ltd and a cost of N50,000.00 awarded jointly against First Bank and Zamfara State Government.
When contacted, the state Commissioner for Information, Malam Ibrahim Birnin Magaji, said that he won’t comment on the issue “because the matter is still in court.”
