Traffic holdup as Muslims celebrate Maulud in Kaduna

There was traffic gridlock in Kaduna metropolis yesterday when thousands of Muslims thronged the Murtala Muammad Square to celebrate the birth of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) in the state.
From Leventis to NEPA roundabout and all major roads leading to the square, there was heavy traffic jam as Islamic school pupils matched through the roads.
As early as 9am, Islamic schools children were seen carrying banners of their respective schools and singing Islamic songs. Their procession lasted till around 3pm.
At the square, many Islamic clerics spoke on the importance and teachings of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). Kaduna State governor was represented at the occasion by his Special Adviser on Islamic affairs, Sheikh Haliru Maraya.
Our correspondent, who went round the metropolis, also noticed high presence of security personnel, especially policemen.
In his message, Governor, Mukhtar Ramalan Yero urged Muslims faithful to continue to pray for peace in the state and the nation at large.
In a statement by his spokesperson, Ahmed Maiyaki, the governor advised Muslims to emulate the life and teachings of Prophet Muhammad (SAW) which showed tolerance, forthrightness, diligence, honesty, selflessness and hard work.
