Alleged SEC scam: Witness says Hembe, Azubuogu got estacode late

A witness in the trial of former chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on Capital Markets and Institutions, Herman Hembe, and his deputy, Chris Azubogu, over alleged misappropriation of estacode yesterday told an Abuja High Court that the two lawmakers were provided with the funds behind the time scheduled for the event.
Hembe and Azubuogu, in two count charge, were alleged to have converted to their own use the sum of $4,095  (equivalent N600,000) given to them by the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) as travelling allowance to a conference in Dominican Republic in October, 2011.
At the resumed hearing Wednesday, EFCC operative, Anietie Udoh, examined by prosecution counsel Chile Okoroma, testified that the ticket and estacode were made available to Azubuogu to travel for the conference on October 19, 2011 through the clerk of the committee for the event which was scheduled for October 16 through 19.
Justice Peter Kekemeke adjourned to February 22.
