Rape: Rights commission commends army for dismissing soldiers

The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has commended the Nigerian Army for its quick response on the call to investigate allegations of abduction and rape by soldiers attached to the Guards Brigade, Abuja.
Executive Secretary of the Commission, Prof Bem Angwe, said the punitive action taken by the army in dismissing the four soldiers involved was a clear indication that no one is above the law.
This was contained in statement signed by the commission’s spokesman,  Muhammad Nasir Ladan.
The commission called for further investigation and prosecution of the dismissed soldiers to ensure that justice is done.
Angwe said a team of lawyers from the commission have been mandated to hold brief on behalf of the commission in such criminal trials.
He said the commission will also ensure that the victims are adequately compensated.
