Cross River seeks probe into killings

The Cross River state government has appealed to the federal government to probe the killing of 11 people in the state by suspected militia men from Ebonyi state.
The militants from Amagu village in Ikwo Local Government Area of Ebonyi state attacked farmers from Adadama community in Abi Local Government Area of Cross River state over a parcel of land.
The mayhem has displaced 2000 and claimed 11 lives.
Security adviser to the Cross River state government, Mr Rekpene Bassey, wondered how the perpetrators were able to gain access through land and water ways that border both communities even with heavy presence of security operatives.
Bassey said following the January 14 attack on Adadama community by their Amagu neighbours, security operatives were deployed
to intervene while peace meetings spearheaded by chairmen of both local councils, among other stakeholders resolved that both warring parties should embrace peace.
While calling on the people of Adadama to maintain peace, the state government implored the federal government to intervene and find urgent answers to the queries raised.
