NIPOST reopens offices

Post offices in the country have been reopened following suspension of protests by retirees of the agency over non-payment of their 6 years pension arrears.
The offices were reopened yesterday as the National President of the Nigerian Union of Pensioners; Alhaji Ali Abacha prevailed on the management of the Nigerian Postal Services (NIPOST) to pay the pensioners.
Lagos chairman of NIPOST pensioners Mr Elijah Akinditure, who confirmed the situation in a telephone chat with our correspondent, said the management of the agency has agreed to pay one month and three months arrears for regular and palliative retirees by next week.
“The national president of Nigerian union of pensioners advised the Post Master General to instantly pay the money into banks yesterday and he did so,” Akinditure said.
He also said the postal company promised to effect the payment of the pensioners’ outstanding balance by the end of next month.
