Maku, Okorocha disagree over NDDC project in Imo

Imo State Governor Rochas Okorocha and Information Minister Labaran Maku yesterday openly disagreed about knowledge of a Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) project in the state.

Rochas, represented by his deputy, Jude Agbaso, told the National Good Governance Tour team led by Maku that the state had no prior knowledge of a Niger Delta skill acquisition project located in Abaezi, Egbema community of the state.

He said the state was not informed about the execution of the project and called for synergy with the state government in the execution of such projects.

However, when it came to the time to deliver his speech, Maku denounced the allegation that the Federal Government did not inform the government of Imo about the project.

He said relevant agencies in the state would be aware of the project and it progress, because there is a commissioner for Niger Delta in every state.

The Integrated Skill Acquisition Centre, which has reached an advanced stage, is aimed at training Niger-Delta youths in skill acquisition in order to integrate them into the oil and gas sector. Details of the project were however not made available to the tour team because the contractor was not on site.

At a power project site, Maku tasked contractors of the 338 megawatts Egbema power station in Imo State to expedite work on the project so as to meet its deadline.

Project manager, Basil Ozoh, said the project is at 90 percent completion stage.
