The Federal College of Education, Katsina has been taken to a Federal High Court over alleged ‘illegal’ retirement of 36 teachers of the college’s staff school.

The appointments of the affected staffs were terminated on the 28th March, 2007 allegedly based on the Bureau of Public Service Reform’s guidelines, according to the writ of summon.

The 36 staff, who stood as plaintiffs in the trial, seek for a declaration that their retirement was wrongful, illegal, unconstitutional, null, void, and of no effect whatsoever. They are also seeking for an order setting aside the letters of termination of their appointment and another order for their reinstatement as well as placing them in the positions that commensurate with their years of service if their termination of appointments had not been effected.

The plaintiffs equally seek for another order directing the defendant to pay them all their salaries, leave allowances and other entitlements dues from January, 2007 to date.

When the case came up on Monday for mention, the court presided over by Justice B. G Ashigar, adjourned it till 26th February for ruling on why the writ of summon was not served on the defendant and or his lawyer before yesterday’s sitting.
