Wamakko suspends council directors over absenteeism

Governor Aliyu Wamakko of Sokoto State yesterday suspended three directors in Yabo local government area of the state for absenting themselves from duty.
The affected directors include those of finance, agriculture and social development.
Speaking shortly after an inspection visit to the council secretariat in Yabo, the governor noted with dismay the nonchalant attitude of senior staff of the councils to work.
He warned that government would no longer condone absenteeism from local government employees and stressed the government’s determination to entrench discipline in the civil service in the state.  He told senior staff to henceforth relocate to the houses allocated to them by government in their various local government councils, calling on local government staff to be punctual to work and be dedicated to their duties. The governor had on Monday also directed the demotion of the principal of Wurno Junior Secondary School for absenteeism just as he directed the immediate promotion of seven teachers at the Turaki Model Primary School in Sokoto South following their punctuality.
